The Sedimentary Structures of the Upper Scamander Sequence and Their Significance
نویسنده
چکیده
A number of sedimentary structures, which have previously not been described anywhere in Tasmania, are developed in the Scamander Slates and Quartzites, near Upper Scamander. These structures include mar!{ings made in muds that have been preserved as casts on the soles of graded sandstones and coarse-grained siltstones. It is well known that certain sole markings, such as flute casts, indicate the direction of the current responsible for their erosion and infilling. This is confirmed at Upper Scamander, for the distribution of the directions incated by these sole markings is similar to that obtained from an examination of current bedding developed in some sandstones and coarse-grained siltstones. A study of the rock types in the Upper Scamander sequence shows that the deposit " normal " to the area was of muds, whilst sands, coarse silts, and fragments of plants and a marine fauna were brought into the locality by turbidity currents, which probably originated to the south-west. The only evidence of life that existed at the site of deposition is the presence of worm-like grooves that were made on the surface of the muds.

Middle to Upper Triassic (Upper Ladinian to Lower Carnian) deep-sea sedimentary rocks crop out across a large area west of Nakhlak village, Central Iran and have been named Ashin Formation. The up to 304m thick, turbiditic, siliciclastic Ashin Formation consists of alternating turbiditic, thin- and medium-bedded calcareous sandstones, purple, fine-grained volcaniclastic sandstones, and mostly g...

The Cretaceous deposits in Morakan, located in the northeast of Khoy, a town in western Azerbaijan province, Iran, are primarily made up of carbonate rocks. These deposits, which are of 717 meters thick, lie on the clastic facies of Jurassic and are covered with beneath the pelagic beds of the Upper Cretaceous. To investigate the facies, sedimentary environment and sequential stratigraphy of th...
متن کاملSedimentology, mineralogy and sedimentary geochemistry of the Late Quaternary sedimentary sequence of Gavkhoni Playa by looking at the paleoclimate
The sediments of the Playa Lake are sensitive indicators of local climates that any change in climate, hydrology, and sedimentary environment will cause changes in the physical and chemical properties of the sediments. These sediments create a valuable and important archive with high resolution to examine these changes in the past. One method of studying climate change during quaternary and oft...

In the present research Kuh-e Siah Sections in the Northeast of Shiraz in the Interior Fars, was investigated to study microfacies, sequence stratigraphy, facies analysis and sedimentary environment of Fahliyan Formation. Generally, 345 meters of these sediments were studied by investigating 240 thin sections. In this study, the indicator microfacies were accurately identified which include Mud...
متن کاملSignificance of ichnofossils in high resolution sequence stratigraphy: Upper Maastrichtian, Kopeh- Dagh Basin, NE Iran
This study shows that ichonology can be used to refine sequence stratigraphy as well as to interpret the depositional environment of the Kalat Formation (Upper Maastrichtian) in the Central Kopeh- Dagh Basin (NE Iran), Dareh-Gaz section. Field studies and petrography of these deposits led to recognize four lithofacies and nine subfacies that formed in the tidal flat (lithofacies A), lagoon (lit...
